Automated medication dispensers, also known as electronic pill dispensers, reduce the chance a patient will forget to take their medication at the proper time or will make a mistake in dosage. The caregiver fills the automated medication dispensers compartments with the necessary medication, and sets the unit to automatically dispense the proper medications at the correct times. When it is time for the patient to take medication, the electronic medication dispenser will alert them with an audible alarm and a flashing light. If the medication is not taken, the automated medication dispenser will alert the ASA monitoring center. Although other automated medication dispensers are available such as the MedPro Lite and the MedPro Plus, ASA recommends the monitored automated medication dispenser the MedPro.
